This is an SOS… from Bianca!
Bianca is one of the beloved dogs in our care and she is sending out a call for help, to YOU!
This is her story:
I am a Brachycephlic (pronounced ‘brackee - cefalic’) dog and I have to have surgery to save my life!
When I was born my skull was severely compressed from front to back. I have no proper nasal bones
and it’s very hard for me to breathe. In fact I have no real nose at all, just slits. Most of the time I just have
to take it easy and watch my friends play catch and run in the park and I have to have surgery as soon as
possible. Rescue Dogs Match has found a wonderful vet at Guelph University Hospital who will do the
surgery for me, but we have to raise a whole pile of money to help me.
What I have is called Brachycephalic Upper Airway Obstructive Syndrome (BUAOS and these are the
symptoms below that I will have to deal with. I already suffer from several of the symptoms listed from 1-
5, but the others will start happening IF I don’t get my surgery and I’m so scared.
1. Loud snoring during sleep
2. Noisy breathing (especially during excitement or exercise)
3. Panting
4. Poor ability to exercise
5. Heat intolerance
6. Choking on food
7. Regurgitating
8. Labored breathing
9. Severe respiratory distress
10. Development of blue gums or tongue
11. Laryngeal collapse
12. Fainting
All the normal parts of my nose and tongue are crammed into a very tiny space because I don’t have a
nose like other dogs. I so want to be a normal happy dog and find my own “people” and my 4 ever and
always home. If I don’t get my surgery this syndrome won’t allow me to live as long as I want to!
Bianca's special surgery will cost approx. $4000.00. This is a HUGE bill for a rescue to pay all at once.
We are sending out a plea for donations to help us pay for Bianca's important surgery!
Please….please, will you help me to breathe?
